Rochdale defender Marcus Holness is on trial with League Two rivals Burton and began pre-season training on Thursday.
Dale said via a statement on their official website: "We can confirm that Marcus Holness has been given permission by Rochdale Football Club to go on trial with fellow League Two side Burton Albion.
"Holness does however remain under contract at Rochdale AFC at this time."
