Burton Albion have opted to give former Derby County defender Youl Mawene a trial run after he suffered an injury-plagued season with Aberdeen.
Mawene is available on a free transfer following his stint north of the border.
The 32-year-old Frenchman, who was at Derby between 2000 and 2004 before spending six years at Preston, will train with Burton for the next few days.
Former Rochdale centre-half Marcus Holness and Derby goalkeeper Ross Atkins, who spent last season on loan at the Pirelli Stadium, also took part as Burton began pre-season training on Thursday.
