Skipper Ian Sharps has spoken of his pride at finally clinching the first promotion of his career with Shrewsbury.

The centre-back, named in the PFA's npower League Two team of the season for a third successive year, guided Shrews to Saturday's 1-0 win over Dagenham and the Shropshire club's long-awaited promotion to League One. It was Sharps' first taste of such success in his long career, which has taken in lengthy spells at both Tranmere and Rotherham, and the 31-year-old is keen to enjoy it. "It's brilliant, we've worked so hard," he told Shrews Player. "It's finally good to be where we belong. "I've been so near and so far and you start to wonder if it (promotion) is ever going to happen but I can put that on my CV now. "We've played great football throughout the season and I think that's what you've got to do in League One, the higher up you go the better football you've got to play."
