Transfer news: St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright considers loan cover for Steven MacLean

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is contemplating entering the loan market to add to his squad in the wake of the knee injury sustained by striker Steven MacLean.

MacLean is set to undergo surgery to remove a piece of floating bone in his knee and will be assessed on Tuesday to see how long he is likely to remain absent for.

It is the same knee that kept MacLean out for four matches last term and leaves Wright with just two frontline strikers – Adam Morgan and Brian Graham – who are on loan at McDiarmid Park from Yeovil and Dundee United respectively.

"I think defensively we will be okay because Simon Lappin can fill in at left-back,” Wright said following his side’s 1-0 defeat at Dundee on Saturday.

“But, depending on how long Macca is going to be out, if it's going to be months more than weeks, I would certainly like to try and bring someone in.

"I think it would be important because there is no point me saying I need three strikers and then we are down to two.

“So I would like another striker in but we can't make a decision on that until Tuesday.”

Wright bemoaned a lack of service to his strikers in Saturday’s defeat at Dundee, but says Morgan and Graham are likely to feature heavily for St Johnstone in the coming weeks.

"I thought Brian Graham did well without much service. He brought people into play.” Wright added.

"Adam Morgan will get opportunities and we brought Brian to the club to play, and he will certainly do that now."
