Cheltenham have decided against taking striker Steve MacLean on loan from Yeovil.
The 29-year-old frontman did not travel with his parent club to Cumbria for the Glovers' 3-2 defeat to Carlisle on Saturday, and Yeovil manager Gary Johnson suggested after that match that a deal might be reached to send the Scot to Whaddon Road. However, Cheltenham boss Mark Yates has called time on discussions surrounding a potential switch for MacLean, as he ponders how best to spend his limited budget. He told the Gloucestershire Echo: "I have not got loads to spend, but I have got to decide where I am going to go and I have to make sure I spend what I have wisely. "If it's one player or two, so be it, we'll keep assessing and if we bring something in it'll be to better the squad."
