McGowan and Hasselbaink secure arrival in Paisley

St Mirren have followed up the signing of Paul McGowan by completing a deal for Nigel Hasselbaink. The Dutch striker's agent revealed at the weekend that the 20-year-old had agreed terms with the Paisley-based club. And Hasselbaink finalised his move to Saints on a one-year contract on Tuesday, just 24 hours after McGowan joined the club on a permanent basis. McGowan, 23, has signed a two-year deal at St Mirren Park after impressing on a season-long loan from Celtic last term, scoring six goals in 39 appearances. Hasselbaink, the nephew of former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd, scored four goals in 28 appearances for relegated Hamilton last season after signing from PSV Eindhoven last summer.

Higdon exit

The double signing follows the departure of last season's top scorer Michael Higdon to Motherwell last week. Meanwhile, 19-year-old goalkeeper Adam McHugh has signed a new one-year contract with Saints, boosting manager Danny Lennon's hopes of improving on last season's second-bottom finish.
