Norwich City midfielder Simon Lappin has secured his future by signing a new two-year contract.

Midfielder's attitude earns praise from Gunn

Norwich City midfielder Simon Lappin has secured his future at Carrow Road by signing a new two-year contract. Lappin has struggled to make an impact since joining the Canaries from St Mirren in January 2007 and was out of favour under former manager Glenn Roeder. However, he made five appearances towards the end of last season and has been rewarded with a new deal by current boss Bryan Gunn. "I'm absolutely over the moon," Lappin told the club's official website. "I'm glad to get it done now so I can just get on with playing football. "I told the manager I wanted to be here and I'm happy it's sorted. "I've said before that although it might not always be the case, I want to play every minute of every game and I've told the manager all along I want to play for Norwich."

Good opportunity

Canaries chief Gunn praised the 26-year-old's attitude after forcing his way into his plans and is happy Lappin is staying with the League One club. Gunn said: "I'm delighted Simon has signed this new deal and extended his contract with the club. "I know Simon was a little frustrated last season, but the one thing that really impresses about him is that he never gave in. He has a tremendous attitude and he's a real credit - he forced his way back into my plans. "This is a good opportunity for him to make his name at Norwich City."
