Key battles

Spurs' debut season in the Champions League continues on Tuesday tonight when they take on Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, live on Sky Sports HD2. Here, skysports.com take a look at three key battles that could decide the encounter in the Spanish capital.

Three duels that could go a long way to deciding matters at the Bernabeu as Spurs play Real Madrid.

PETER CROUCH v RICARDO CARVALHO

Crouch has saved his best form for the Champions League this season, bagging seven out of his 10 strikes in the competition. His height has caught European sides out on numerous occasions, but in Carvalho he faces a man who knows how to marshal him well. The former Chelsea centre-back has a strong record against Crouch but the England man will be out to give him a torrid time tonight.

SANDRO v XABI ALONSO

Sandro has been nothing short of a revelation since he was thrust into Spurs' European campaign against AC Milan at the San Siro. The Brazilian had only played a handful of matches before he broke down an experienced Milan midfield. Alonso, as many Liverpool fans know, is one of the most creative midfielders in the world, and cutting out the Spaniard's through-balls to the Real front line will be vital.

GARETH BALE v SERGIO RAMOS

If he is fully fit and back to his best, Bale's pace and trickery can prove the undoing of the best defenders in the world, as Inter Milan's Maicon will undoubtedly agree. Sergio Ramos started life as a central defender but his marauding runs down the right will leave a hole that the Welshman must exploit.
