India captain MS Dhoni is the new co-owner of Indian Super League side Chennaiyin FC alongside Mrs Vita Dani.

MS Dhoni spoke of his delight on becoming a co-owner of the Indian Super League outfit as he looks to build on his strong association with the people of Chennai

The 33-year-old wicketkeeper played franchise cricket for Chennai, but he is now keen to show his passion for football too.

“I used to be a goalkeeper in school and always enjoy playing and watching the game," he said.

“I wanted to be associated with football so when the opportunity came to be a part of Chennaiyin FC I was ecstatic as this gives me a chance to connect with the city of Chennai again.”

Dhoni sees his arrival as a chance for him to be part of the Indian football revolution and cultivate footballing talent.

“I look forward to an exciting season ahead but at the same time it’s important that we develop the grassroots level and produce more football stars in India.”
