The midweek friendlies dominate the World Cup build-up as several of the main contenders struggled.
England beat Denmark
There was a much-needed win for England after consecutive Wembley defeats as a late Daniel Sturridge goal secured a 1-0 win over Denmark on Wednesday evening. Roy Hodgson's team struggled for fluency at times but there were encouraging performances from Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana as well as teenage debutant Luke Shaw to give the England boss plenty of food for thought following the final friendly before he announces his World Cup squad.

Nick Collins picks his squad
With the Denmark game out the way, speculation about England's World Cup squad of 23 is set to go into overdrive. Ashley Cole or Luke Shaw? Andy Carroll or Rickie Lambert? What about the midfield options? Should Hodgson go with tried and trusted performers like Frank Lampard and James Milner or opt for the promising talents of Ross Barkley? Jeff Stelling not happy
Not everyone was encouraged by England's victory with Sky Sports' own Jeff Stelling left baffled by Hodgson's team selection. Problems elsewhere
Before Jeff gets himself into too much of a panic, it's worth taking note of the other friendly results around the globe. England's efforts were relatively impressive given that a host of fancied sides failed to live up to their billing. Argentina played out a
disappointing goalless draw against Romania, while Germany were outplayed by Chile but somehow managed to
edge to a 1-0 win. In a couple of heavyweight encounters,
Spain beat Italy while the
Netherlands were desperately poor as they went down to France. Clearly there are plenty of sides with issues as Brazil approaches.
Off-the-field issues
Bad blood rather than bad results are the problem for World Cup newcomers Bosnia and Herzegovina. Edin Dzeko is supposed to be the country's star striker but he endured a difficult evening in midweek as the Manchester City man found himself jeered by his own supporters. Perhaps even more alarmingly, Dzeko elected to point the finger at his national team coach for making him play the full 90 minutes when not fully fit. Hmm... Watch this space.
