Iain Dowie on new Tottenham 'keeper Hugo Lloris
"I don't think Lloris will go straight into the side as Andre Villas-Boas has top keep faith with Brad Friedel, who was outstanding against West Brom, is ever reliable and is a leader in the dressing room.
"The Frenchman is a very good 'keeper but his recent form hasn't been up to the standard it was a couple of years ago when I thought he was one of the best in the world. It will take some to dislodge Friedel, who has played over 300 consecutive Premier League games."
Tony Gale on Andy Carroll's loan move to West Ham
"As long as West Ham don't get too direct with their style it will be a great signing; the fans needed a spark, especially after last week's result against Swansea, and this is it. If Andy gets good service form the wide men, then West Ham have got a good centre-forward on their hands.
"The signings of Matt Jarvis and now Andy shows that West Ham will be getting some crosses into the box and are going to be a proper handful. Andy won't be in a system like the one Brendan Rodgers is trying to adopt at Liverpool but it will be exciting nonetheless."
Iain Dowie on what Benfica's Javi Garcia will bring to Man City
"Garcia is a good all-round holding midfielder; he is a threat in both boxes, is quite physically imposing, and has good legs. He won't kill you with a pass, but he has good football intelligence and is very good at keeping possession.
"He probably has a bit more craft than Nigel de Jong (who has left City to join AC Milan). He knows European football very well, too, which could be crucial as City are in an incredibly tough Champions League group (with Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax)."
Paul Merson on Rafael van der Vaart's switch to Hamburg
"Van der Vaart is a top-drawer player and I am really surprised that Tottenham have got rid of him. The only good thing for Spurs is that he has gone to another country so he will be out of sight and out of mind; the last thing they needed to do was sell him to a Premier League club as he could have really fired.
"I would have liked Arsenal to have signed a forward (on transfer deadline day) because the Gunners do look a bit short up front at the moment, but I think that Santi Cazorla is class and when Jack Wilshere is fit it will be like having a £30million signing."
Tony Gale on Tottenham's acquisition of Moussa Dembele
"Tottenham paid £15million to Fulham for Dembele but that is a snip because he is some player; he is easily worth £25million.
"In Fulham's game against Man United, he made Shinji Kagawa, Tom Cleverley, Anderson and Ryan Giggs look silly, drifting past them like they weren't there. Spurs were missing a ball carrier after Luka Modric went to Real Madrid and Dembele is a perfect replacement - and he could go on to be better than Modric."
Graham Hunter on QPR new boy Esteban Granero
"A lot of people in Spain will be delighted to see Esteban Granero getting a lot more first-team football. QPR have picked up a real lover of the football; a really bright and intelligent young man who can distribute elegantly, the sort of midfielder I saw at Loftus Road when I was younger."
Kevin Bond on Dimitar Berbatov's transfer to Fulham
"Berbatov is obviously a player that Martin Jol knows extremely well, having had him in his squad when he was Tottenham manager, so they are comfortable with one another.
"Fulham have lost a creative player in Moussa Dembele, so Berbatov will be a fantastic signing for them and I'm sure the supporters will be delighted."
Dave Bassett on Maicon's move to Manchester City
"Maicon, in my opinion, is finished as a top-class player; we saw what Tottenham's Gareth Bale did to him so I don't think he will be playing against Spurs!
"Four or five years ago he was a top full-back but hia performances over the last few seasons have not been up to the right sort of standard and Inter have been prepared to sell him. He is a very good attacking player but he has been exposed defensively.
"You just wonder what is happening with Micah Richards and where he is going to play now City have Maicon and Pablo Zabaleta at right-back because the very rarely play him at centre-half."
