Dare to dream

Serbia FanZoner Matt Bright believes his team will qualify along with Ghana, knocking Germany out...

Germany victory lifts Serb spirits

I ended my last blog with the words "you always have to dream" and qualification is now no longer a dream away, it is actually a very good possibility. A win against the Aussies on Wednesday evening and as long as one team wins out of Germany or Ghana then it's last 16, here we come. Let's go back to that famous day in Port Elizabeth before we look forward to Australia. People can moan and say that we would not have won if Germany weren't down to 10 men, and that Miroslav Klose was wrongly sent off, but most German fans would still expect to beat us with 10 men. And Milan Jovanovic, who will be grassing out Premier League next season in the red of Liverpool, scored only a minute after the German saw red so we still had just under an hour to hold on.
Memorable
With the ref dishing out yellows like they were going out of fashion, it was not any easy feat, to only keep a clean sheet but keep 10 men on the pitch - but we kept our nerve and held a tight line and clearly a fine save from Vladimir Stojkovic to deny Germany a penalty helped us capture a very memorable win. Going into the final Group D game with three points means that any two of the four can qualify from the group, and especially with Ghana heading the group, there could still be a few twists and I don't think anyone can really predict what two teams will go through. But I am going to lay me neck on the line and predict that Ghana and Serbia will progress at the expense of Germany. This was not what I originally thought and not what I predicted at the start of World Cup but I just have this funny feeling that Ghana might just upset Germany. So, it all comes down to Wednesday evening, a win for us and we are through. No matter what happens elsewhere, it is all in our hands and after the German win a few days ago, spirit in the camp must be electric and I have every bit of faith that come Thursday evening Serbia will be one of the last 16. COME ON YOU WHITE EAGLES!
