PL Team of the Week

With the festive period fast approaching, we were spoilt for choice after a serving of midweek mayhem in the Premier League.

Find out who made Sky Sports' latest Premier League XI following the midweek games.

Team of the Week

Tim Howard - Everton It was a first win at Old Trafford in 21 attempts for the Toffees and it was a former Manchester United goalkeeper who was due many of the plaudits. Howard was in outstanding form as he returned to haunt his former club and former manager, David Moyes. The stand-out save from the American, a stunning point-blank block from Patrice Evra's goal-bound header in the second half as Everton appeared to be rocking under United pressure. Carl Jenkinson - Arsenal The league leaders continue to turn defence into attack as they cut open teams and maintain their lead at the summit. Right-back Jenkinson burst down the wing in the opening minute before whipping a threatening cross into the box as Arsenal took the lead, with returning striker Nicklas Bendtner making no mistake with his header from close range. Ashley Williams - Swansea A fourth clean sheet for Swansea and another authoritative display from the Welsh centre-back. Every threat posed by the Newcastle attack at the Liberty Stadium was quashed by the solidity of Williams at the heart of the Michael Laudrup's back four. A cohesive defensive performance freed the Swans to concentrate on penetrating the Magpies back-line, which they did with ease, running out 3-0 victors on the night. Vlad Chiriches - Tottenham An excellent defensive display combined with an expertly-taken goal, which wasn't all that bad for his first. The Romanian thwarted the Fulham threats before drawing Tottenham level after Ashkan Dejagah's opener for the hosts. Although coming from the least likely of sources, the Spurs equaliser was a fine goal as Chiriches smashed home a low half-volley from 30 yards out. Bryan Oviedo - Everton Coming into the side in place of the injured Leighton Baines, Oviedo stole the headlines by netting a goal Everton fans will treasure for many a year to come as Roberto Martinez's men registered the side's first win at the Theatre of Dreams since 1992. The Costa Rica defender arrived unmarked at the back post to convert Romelu Lakaku's cross-shot in the 86th minute as the visitors snatched victory in a compelling end-to-end contest. Yaya Toure - Manchester City Goals win games, right? Toure delivered two of them as Manchester City survived a late scare to beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2 at The Hawthorns on Wednesday. Sergio Aguero gave the visitors an early lead before Aleksandar Kolarov advanced down the flank and Toure let the ball come across his body before side-footing low into the far corner. Kolarov was involved again after the break, winning a penalty after being hauled down by Claudio Yacob - and Toure made no mistake from spot. Mesut Ozil - Arsenal Commanding. How many times have we heard it already? Another game completely controlled by the Germany international with a goal to put the icing on the cake. Ozil dictated game's pace and flow, pulling the strings in the midfield before crowning his man-of-the-match performance with his fourth goal of the season. It came shortly after the restart when Ozil converted from close range following a lovely passing exchange with Aaron Ramsey on the edge of the Hull City box. Eden Hazard - Chelsea A sublime performance from the Belgian playmaker ensured Chelsea edged out Sunderland in a seven-goal Stadium of Light thriller on Wednesday evening. Hazard was the thorn in the Black Cats' side from the off and it was little surprise when he cut in from the left to fire beyond Vito Mannone 10 minutes before half-time. If his first was superb, Hazard's second on the hour was sublime - another wonderful strike to restore Chelsea's lead after exchanging passes with Frank Lampard. Barry Bannan - Crystal Palace It is going to be a long road to recovery if Crystal Palace are to retain their Premier League status for next season; but if Barry Bannan's work ethic is anything to go by the Eagles are certainly equipped for a survival showdown. The midfielder ran himself into the ground once again on Tuesday night as Tony Pulis' first home game as Palace manager ended in victory over West Ham United. The lone goal of the game came just before half-time when Bannan swung over a cross from the right to find an unmarked Marouane Chamakh, who glanced beyond Jussi Jaaskelainen. Dimitar Berbatov - Fulham Despite ending on the losing side, the Bulgarian forward was one of the stand-out performers in Rene Meulensteen's first game in charge of Fulham. Pitched as the lone striker against his former club, Berbatov - who looked well-paced and controlled - sneaked through for a one-on-one with Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the first half before providing a sumptuous assist as Ashkan Dejagah gave Fulham the lead. After going behind late on, Fulham led by Berbatov pressed until the death and almost levelled proceedings with the final chance of the match. Luis Suarez - Liverpool A superb display which shall live long in the memory. On the back of defeat at Hull City, the Uruguayan provided the perfect tonic for Brendan Rodgers' side. The striker hit a spectacular four goals to rewrite history at Anfield against Norwich on Wednesday night. Goals in the 15th, 29th and 35th minutes made him the first Premier League player to score three hat-tricks against the same team, before refusing to rest on his laurels by netting a fantastic free-kick and turning provided as Raheem Sterling took the Liverpool haul to five.
