JAMIE REDKNAPP'S VIEW

"When Sunderland lost at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday Night Football, I thought that was the end. They looked dead and buried and even Gus Poyet felt that and said they needed a miracle.

"But they went to Manchester City, won at Chelsea and then they got that all-important momentum. It has been a great performance from them to get themselves out of trouble – but they are underachieving. Sunderland is a big club and this should not happen to them every year."

After spending the majority of the campaign on loan in the Championship – with Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday, respectively – Wickham returned to Sunderland to hit five goals in three games as he played a key role in his side’s revival. A double at Manchester City helped take a point from the eventual champions before he netted in the vital win at Chelsea and grabbed another brace in the 4-0 win over Cardiff City.
