We cast an eye over the weekend's Premier League action and pick out the highlights.
Player of the Weekend
Charlie Adam
The midfielder is Stoke's top scorer in the Premier League this season and he added another two to his tally after scoring both goals in the 2-1 win over Manchester United, which was the Potters' first league victory over the Red Devils since Boxing Day 1984. Adam is always a threat from set-pieces and his deflected free-kick gave Stoke the lead before his second-half thunderbolt restored their advantage. Adam was also constantly in the thick of things and ensured United were never able to settle.
Performance of the Weekend
Sunderland
For the second year in a row, Sunderland recorded a 3-0 victory at St James' Park to make it three wins in a row over Newcastle United for the first time in 91 years. Gus Poyet's side were full value for their victory after again outplaying their hosts in the Tyne-Wear derby. Fabio Borini opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 19 minutes after Phil Bardsley had been brought down by Vurnon Anita. Adam Johnson doubled the lead four minutes later with a close-range finish before Jack Colback put the seal on a dream day for Sunderland with a third goal 10 minutes from time.
Goal of the Weekend
Rickie Lambert
Any one of Southampton's goals in the 3-0 victory at Fulham could have claimed this award, with a triple blast in the space of 11 second-half minutes securing the points. Perhaps the pick was the second as substitute Nathaniel Clyne exchanged passes with Steven Davis before getting down the right wing. Clyne rolled a low pass into the penalty area, which was stepped over by Jay Rodriguez and Lambert swept the ball beyond Maarten Stekelenburg.
Save of the Weekend
Simon Mignolet
The Liverpool goalkeeper just edges out Stoke's Asmir Begovic for this award. With Liverpool leading 1-0 at The Hawthorns early in the second half, Mignolet preserved his side's advantage with a wonderful one-handed stop. A corner was swung in from the left and Gareth McAuley rose well to power a header at goal, but Mignolet thrust out his left hand to produce a brilliant reaction save.
Squealer of the Weekend
Chico Flores
There was little doubt that Andy Carroll's flailing, swinging arm caught Swansea defender Chico Flores in West Ham's 2-0 win at Upton Park on Saturday. Carroll was sent off for the incident, but there seemed barely enough contact to warrant Chico's theatrical reaction. It prompted West Ham boss Sam Allardyce to say afterwards: "That was him squealing and centre-halves aren't supposed to squeal, are they?" West Ham plan to appeal the red card.
Screamer of the Weekend
Charlie Adam
Stoke midfielder Adam had given his side a first-half lead against Manchester United when his long-range free-kick took a wicked deflection off Michael Carrick. There was no disputing his second goal, however, which turned out to be the winner at the Britannia Stadium. Just five minutes after United had equalised, Stoke regained the lead on 52 minutes when Marko Arnautovic failed to connect with Jon Walters' knock-down and the ball rolled invitingly for Adam to lash an unstoppable left-footed shot into the top corner from 25 yards beyond David de Gea.
Gaffe of the Weekend
Kolo Toure
Liverpool appeared to be heading for a win at West Brom following Daniel Sturridge's first-half goal until Toure's disastrous pass denied his side the chance to move four points ahead of Everton again. On 67 minutes, Toure, under no real pressure, rolled a pass across the edge of his own penalty area which went straight to Victor Anichebe. The former Everton striker gratefully accepted the gift and drilled a low shot past Mignolet to earn West Brom a 1-1 draw.
Miss of the Weekend
Tom Cleverley
Manchester United midfielder Cleverley is a much-maligned figure and he passed up the opportunity to get in the good books of the Red Devils' fans. With United trailing 2-1 to Stoke late on, Wayne Rooney's free-kick was brilliantly pushed onto the post by Asmir Begovic but, as the ball ran loose in the box, it fell to Cleverley about 10 yards out. There was a mass of bodies in front of him, but Cleverley should have done better than to sky his shot over the crossbar.
Moment of the Weekend
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first win
After three successive defeats, Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was finally able to celebrate his first win as a Premier League manager following a 2-1 victory over Norwich. Robert Snodgrass had given Norwich an early lead in south Wales, but two goals in as many minutes early in the second half from Craig Bellamy and new signings Kenwyne Jones earned Cardiff the points, and also lifted Solskjaer's side off the bottom of the table.
