We cast an eye over the weekend's Premier League action and pick out the highlights.
Player of the Weekend
Adam Johnson
The Sunderland winger scored the first Premier League hat-trick of his career, and created the other goal, in the 4-1 win at Fulham. Johnson opened the scoring on 29 minutes by curling a fine free-kick up and over the wall before he set up Ki Sung-yueng for the second goal before half-time via a well-worked set-piece. Johnson made it 3-1 by finishing off an excellent counter-attack before completing his hat-trick with a penalty after Jozy Altidore had been fouled by Philippe Senderos.

Stoke 3 Liverpool 5
Liverpool enjoyed a first Premier League win at the Britannia Stadium following an absorbing 5-3 victory over Stoke. The Reds were in front on five minutes when Aly Cissokho's shot took a wicked deflection off Ryan Shawcross and then Luis Suarez capitalised on poor defending to score on 32 minutes. But Stoke were level before half-time following goals from former Liverpool duo Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam. Steven Gerrard restored the visitors' lead on 51 minutes with a penalty after Raheem Sterling had been bundled over by Marc Wilson and then Suarez scored his second with a superb finish on 71 minutes. Stoke threatened another comeback when Jon Walters scored on 85 minutes, but substitute Daniel Sturridge made sure of the points two minutes later.
Goal of the Weekend
Adam Johnson's second
Fulham had threatened a comeback at home to Sunderland until Johnson's second goal of the game put the visitors 3-1 up on 69 minutes. It was an excellent counter-attack from inside their own half by Sunderland as Ki Sung-yueng exchanged passes with substitute Jozy Altidore. Ki advanced into the Fulham half before threading a fine slide-rule pass into the path of Johnson, who slipped his shot through David Stockdale's legs.
Controversy of the Weekend
Cheick Tiote's disallowed goal
With Newcastle trailing Manchester City 1-0, the hosts thought they had equalised on 34 minutes when Cheick Tiote arrowed a 25-yard shot into the corner of the net. There were Newcastle players stood in an offside position, but none of them were obscuring Joe Hart's view, and it was unclear if the City keeper was distracted by Yoan Gouffran. Newcastle were incensed with the decision and manager Alan Pardew had plenty of finger-wagging to do at referee Mike Jones.
Save of the Weekend
Artur Boruc
The return of goalkeeper Artur Boruc after six weeks out with a fractured hand played a major part in a clean sheet for Southampton at home to West Brom. With the Saints leading 1-0 and the game heading into the final minute Albion worked the ball out wide for Liam Ridgewell. His cut-back found an unmarked Shane Long in the six-yard box ready to tap home and bag the Baggies a point. But Polish shot-stopper Boruc showed amazing agility to spring off his line and deny the striker with a superb save with his left leg. Now that's what you call a match-winning save!
Belated debut of the Weekend
Andy Carroll
It's fair to say Andy Carroll's had a frustrating time of it since completing a £15million permanent move from Liverpool last summer, and Sam Allardyce has certainly missed the England international. However, Carroll was finally fit enough to make the bench for Saturday's 2-0 win at relegation rivals Cardiff. Carroll came on with 20 minutes to go and set up Mark Noble to score the Hammers' second goal in added time.
Miss of the Weekend
Jason Puncheon
It's fair to say that this was more than just the miss of the weekend after one of the worst penalties you'll ever see. Crystal Palace were handed a golden chance to take the lead at Tottenham after just eight minutes when Marouane Chamakh was bundled over by Mousa Dembele, but Puncheon made a complete mess of the penalty. With a technique resembling a rugby player taking a conversion, Puncheon skied his spot-kick high into the White Hart Lane stand.
Moment of the Weekend
Antonio Valencia's goal
After starting 2014 with three straight defeats, Manchester United manager David Moyes was under pressure before Saturday's game at home to Swansea, who had won at Old Trafford in the FA Cup the previous week. Swansea dominated possession in the first half as United struggled for tempo, but Valencia's goal just a minute into the second half lifted confidence and could prove to be a defining moment in Moyes' tenure.
Lucky break of the Weekend
Aly Cissokho
With just five minutes gone at the Britannia Stadium, Liverpool went in front in very fortunate circumstances. Cissokho's left-footed shot from about 25 yards seemed more likely to trouble the corner flag than the goal, but it took a wicked deflection off Ryan Shawcross and flew past helpless Stoke keeper Jack Butland.
