The Soccer Saturday team analyse the big Premier League games

Phil Thompson on a frustrating draw for both Wigan and Spurs

Wigan 2-2 Tottenham: Read our report here

Spurs leave it late

"Neither team will be happy with a draw. Spurs were leading after nine minutes and it was so easy for them it was untrue, Wigan were struggling and I couldn't see them getting back into the game.

"But just four minutes later it was 1-1. Boyce with a bullet header. However, Spurs were so in control you thought they'd run out winners quite easily.

"Certainly, though, Roberto Martinez has had a better impact in the dressing room at half-time because Wigan came out and passed the ball better. Then Wigan were very good and I don't know what happened to Spurs.

"Wigan were comfortable after McManaman's first Premier League goal made it 2-1 and Spurs hardly created a chance until a late skirmish when Boyce scored an own goal.

"Spurs probably didn't deserve it. They were in a good position but they remain in fifth place. Wigan, though, will be thinking how good things would have looked with three points."

Matt Le Tissier on Everton's win over poor Fulham

Everton 1-0 Fulham: Read our report here

Everton to qualify?

"It is highly unlikely but it is still possible Everton could get into the top four. While it's still mathematically possible I'm sure they'll still be going for it. However, it wasn't a vintage performance from them today. They were the better side but Fulham were toothless and Everton didn't have to do too much to beat them.

"Schwarzer was man of the match, which probably tells you a lot about how Fulham played. I don't think Tim Howard had a save to make in the whole game - and that's not great. Everton got the early goal and they threatened on occasions after that with Schwarzer making some good saves.

"Only Man United and Man City have lost fewer games than Everton in the league this season - they've only lost six - and it is a credit to the players because they haven't got the biggest squad in the world. You probably have to credit the medical staff as well."

Paul Merson on rejuvenated Stoke's home win over Norwich

Stoke 1-0 Norwich: Read our report here

Stoke back to their best?

"Stoke were back near to their best today. It was a bit of a gritty game - I thought Crouch and N'Zonzi got away with a bit. But they were tough and Norwich knew they were in a game. Too many teams have gone to the Britannia in recent weeks and thought 'this ain't that hard' whereas usually if you get a result there you know you've been in a game.

"I thought Adam was very good. He's got a bit of guile about him and scored a good goal. There was a long ball to Crouch but he doesn't just flick it on, he knows where it's going and all of a sudden Adam takes a chance and makes a great finish. He then made a great chance for Crouch and you thought it would be 2-0 but he air-shot it, which is unusual.

"At the other end Begovic I think is a top, top goalie. He didn't have too many saves to make but every cross he takes so comfortably.

"The only consolation for Norwich is Spurs scored an equaliser against Wigan at the end, because otherwise you'd say they were still in severe trouble."

Charlie Nicholas on West Brom's big win at Southampton

Southampton 0-3 West Brom: Read our report here

West Brom attack too good

"There was early evidence we'd have a decent game from teams who both like to play a nice passing game. But there was a surprise from West Brom who started with Fortune, Lukaku and Long, which is the first time I've noticed them do that - and it gave Southampton all sorts of problems.

"Fortune opened the scoring and going in at half-time 1-0 down was a good result for Southampton; it was the poorest I've seen them play. Normally it's fluent, high tempo and energetic but they couldn't get close to Lukaku, Long or Fortune. Lukaku especially was different class all day with his pace, his power and his link up play. He was very impressive.

"There was no surprise he scored the second which finished it and Long got the third. So all three strikers scored.

"But there was a weird red card scenario: Ramirez came on, was running forward with the ball, he does turn the elbow and hit Long in the face. Straight red card. But they all got involved and Fortune put his hand on Ramirez's face and got a straight red too. Then there was a disgusting tackle from Fox at the end on Steven Reid, which was another straight red card."
