Charlie Adam hailed Luis Suarez after his equaliser for Liverpool against Newcastle

Suarez: On target again

Charlie Adam hailed Luis Suarez as one of the best strikers in the Premier League after he helped Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle.

A fantastic strike from Yohan Cabaye put the visitors ahead but Suarez capped a fine second-half performance with an impressive goal of his own to earn Liverpool a point.

"For me, on his day, Suarez and Robin van Persie are the top strikers in this league," former Liverpool midfielder Adam told Sky Sports .

"The ball travelled 70 yards and to take it the way he did and then take it round the goalie was world class."

"They are phenomenal and people like that can change a game - and Suarez did that against Newcastle.

"He produced an unbelievable finish for the equaliser as well. The ball travelled 70 yards and to take it the way he did and then take it round the goalie was world class."

However, Adam didn't feel Liverpool did enough to earn all three points and urged Brendan Rodgers' side to put the ball in more dangerous areas in future to increase their threat.

"After Newcastle got a man sent off Liverpool may have felt they could have got three points but I don't think, overall, in the wide areas, they did enough," said Adam.

"They didn't get enough crosses into the right areas to get goals. You can have 800 passes in a game but if you don't do those where it matters, in the deep end of the pitch then you're not getting anywhere."

Chris Coleman agreed with the Scotland midfielder and said Suarez is vital to Liverpool's chances this season.

"This game is a bit of an iconic fixture but this was a normal game until Suarez got on the ball," he said.

"Every time he had the ball something happened; he was very slippery.

"He's got great awareness and he's a threat. He had two or three defenders around him on more than one occasion and he managed to wriggle out of it.

"When you've got that type of player on your team then you've always got a chance and his goal was absolutely brilliant; his touch was sublime and he had the composure at the end to slot it in.

"Liverpool looked more dangerous when they were putting the ball in the box rather than looking for the perfect pass. Sometimes you've got to put it in there. They did that more in the second half.

"But what are Liverpool going to do if Luis Suarez gets a suspension or an injury? He's a great player but that's all they've got."

Scandalous

However, Coleman was less impressed with Fabricio Coloccini's challenge on Suarez, which earned the Argentinean a straight red card.

"I thought it was an abysmal challenge from Coloccini," he said.

"When you see it in slow motion it is a scandalous challenge; a coward's challenge.

"I was a defender myself and I'm all for big tackles but we don't want to see challenges like that in football."
