Le Mans' chances of avoiding the drop appear even more remote following a 1-1 draw with Monaco, while already-relegated Grenoble provided their supporters with a rare moment of cheer by thrashing Paris St Germain.
Le Mans started the day eight points adrift of safety with just four games remaining, and they were unable to get the victory that was really required after being pegged back by Monaco.
Mathieu Dossevi fired Le Mans in front after just ten minutes and Monaco were frustrated in their attempts to equalise before half-time.
But Monaco did not have to wait much longer to draw level as Moussa Maazou struck in the 48th minute to salvage a point.
Bottom club Grenoble earned only their fourth victory of the campaign with a crushing 4-0 triumph over Paris St Germain.
PSG had been unbeaten in their previous five games but but rested key players ahead of Saturday's French Cup final against Monaco and fell behind in the 26th minute when Laurent Battles scored.
Nicolas Dieuze doubled Grenoble's advantage on the stroke of half-time and Nassim Akrour made it 3-0 after 65 minutes.
Danijel Ljuboja completed the rout four minutes later to boost Grenoble's paltry points tally to 19 for the season.
