Argentine full-back's paperwork resolved

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has welcomed the arrival of Marcos Angeleri after his passport problems were finally resolved. The Argentine full-back finally flew out to Portugal on Friday to link up with his team-mates on their pre-season training camp. The former Estudiantes stopper had been unable to take part so far because of delays in paperwork - specifically getting an Italian passport which will allow him to play in Europe. However, those issues have now been resolved and Bruce is keen for the 27-year-old to begin training as soon as possible to help him adapt quickly to the rigours of English football.

Great news

"It's good news and it's great for him because he needs to work as soon as possible with us," Bruce told the Sunderland Echo. "It has been a bit of a culture shock for him coming over and seeing what English football is all about but he is a top quality player and he will adjust. "The reports we've had on him from Argentina were all outstanding and he is a player who will bring something extra to our squad."
