Imrie: Wants to stay with Accies even if they are relegated

Hamilton forward Dougie Imrie insists he wants to stay with the club even if they are relegated from the SPL.

The Accies are 10 points adrift at the foot of the table and are odds-on to be playing First Division football next term.

Imrie knows the playing staff have been below-par this season and he believes everyone should want to stay in order to help them bounce back at the first time of asking.

The 27-year-old is reportedly attracting interest from elsewhere, but his first thoughts are to help the club return to the SPL should they suffer the drop.

Stay

"If you go down you should want to stay because you haven't done your best the season before," he said.

"So I don't see why people would want to jump ship if we go down. I'd want to stay to try and get us straight back up.

"I did it before at Inverness. We went down and, although I left halfway through the season, they got promoted in their first year down there.

"The players here have a duty to stay and try to get us back up. After the season we've had it would be unfair on the manager and fans if everyone just got up and left saying 'I'm an SPL player'.

"That's the way I feel and I have two years left at Accies. I'd be more than happy to stay and fight to get this club back into the SPL.

"Relegation is not a nice feeling. There's so much relying on it, people's jobs and livelihoods. Staff lost jobs and that's not nice to be part of. I don't want that to happen again."
