Collins: Pools to keep climbing

Sam Collins saw Hartlepool climb off the foot of the table and backed his side to keep on climbing after a 2-1 win at Exeter.

The Pools kept out an Exeter side that dominated the first half, but had nothing to show for their efforts, before Michael Woods and Charlie Wyke fired Pools into a two-goal lead. Christian Ribeiro's first Grecians goal was nothing more than consolation for Exeter, who had won their previous five League Two games, and Collins was delighted with what he saw. "Every one of them was outstanding and it was a brilliant win," Collins said. "Woods scored a brilliant goal. This is a second chance for him. I knew what he was capable of and he has repaid it in the last two games. "We need to start climbing the table now and we will do that if we carry on playing like that. "I am pleased for everyone involved at the football club. Everyone has a job to do and mine is to get this team organised to start winning football matches. We got our rewards. "We had two or three chances in the first half, hit the bar and had a couple of good efforts saved. But in the second half we got in time and time again and could have scored three or four more goals. It was non-stop up and down the pitch. "We will improve, I will make sure of that. We will train properly and make sure we are hard to beat because we have got enough quality to win football matches." Exeter manager Paul Tisdale could not fault his side for their effort, but felt they lacked that extra bit of quality where it really matters most. "I am disappointed with the scoreline, I had hoped we would come away with a draw at the very least but I am philosophical about it," Tisdale said. "I am not surprised, they worked very hard and had a simple purpose to their play which on its day can work out for them, so fair play to them. "I think we were as near to proper as you can get in the first half with our possession play and the way we controlled the game. We were as near as you will get to good. "We haven't got the capacity to respond to these problems, or an opportunity to go into this game with some energy and fluidity. "That's the way it is, but I thought we were really good first half and I was pleased with what I saw, but at 0-0, the game is always in the balance, We just didn't threaten the goal enough."
