Paul Tisdale was left ruing a poor second half display from Exeter who had started the season well in their 2-0 loss at Morecambe.
The Grecians did have chances with Aaron Davies forcing Barry Roche into a scrambling save before the goalkeeper produced another fine block from the excellent John O'Flynn late on.
He said: "I thought we were excellent in the first half and did everything right apart from score.
"We had a couple of decent chances in the first half and had we taken one of them then things may have been a lot different and altered the complexion of the game.
"I told the lads at half time that I was happy but then we started the second half in the worst possible way and were a goal down within seconds.
"My main disappointment is that we finished the game so poorly. We were a goal down and chasing a point but we just didn't put them under enough pressure.
"We didn't pass it well enough and gave away too many fouls and they took advantage with a second goal to seal the game."
