Smith happy with team spirit

Manager Dean Smith praised Walsall's fighting spirit as they hit back and grabbed a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Carlisle.

Skipper Andy Butler was caught in possession by Carlisle winger Jon-Paul McGovern, who set up Lee Miller for a seventh-minute goal, but Butler won the 81st-minute penalty which enabled Alex Nicholls to fire home the equaliser on his 200th appearance for the Saddlers. Smith said: "Andy knows he made a mistake which is unlike him. But he won the penalty and got us our goal and had another cleared off the line and hit the post as well. "Andy gave a fully-committed performance, but it was a big team effort." Smith added: "I said at half-time I was disappointed we were trying not to lose rather than trying to win. We showed more belief in the second half. Carlisle are an in-form team and we showed a lot of quality."
