Bristol Rovers have completed their first summer signing in the shape of released Norwich midfielder Matt Gill.

The 30-year-old is poised to pen a three-year deal with Rovers this week, subject to a medical, having been released by the Canaries at the end of last season. Gill had plenty of suitors including Exeter and Walsall, whom he spent one month on loan with last season as well as a short spell at Peterborough. The experienced midfield man started his career at London Road and enjoyed seven years with Posh before stints with Notts County and Exeter prior to his move to Carrow Road in 2009. Rovers chairman Nick Higgs told the club's official website: "We would like to welcome Matt to the club as our first summer signing. We have agreed terms with him and he will be signing his contract later this week after undergoing a medical with us. "Paul (Buckle, manager) has kept in constant contact with us despite being on holiday and Matt was a target who was very high up on his list. We are confident this will be the first of many new signings to arrive at the Memorial Stadium over the coming weeks."
