New Palace boss wants Ambrose and Clyne to stay with Eagles

Crystal Palace boss George Burley has spoken of his determination to keep hold of Darren Ambrose and Nathaniel Clyne as he seeks a Championship promotion push. Ambrose is hot property after netting 20 goals for the Eagles last season, with former boss Neil Warnock keen to take him to QPR. England Under-19 international Clyne is interesting Premier League outfit Birmingham. Burley is due to speak to the pair this week and he is keen for them to remain at Selhurst Park as he seeks to build a squad capable of pushing for promotion.

Speculation

Burley told the South London Press: "I know Darren well - I brought him through as a kid at Ipswich. "These days there is so much speculation and you can get your head turned with the promise of x, y or z. "But I want both of them to stay and they are both under contract - that's in our favour."

Meanwhile, the former Scotland boss is targeting ex-Reading and Sheffield United midfielder James Harper, who will be a free agent from Thursday. It is believed Burley has already held talks about a deal for the experienced 29-year-old, who was a key man in the Royals' promotion to the top-flight in 2006. The Palace boss is also keen on former Eagles striker Clinton Morrison, who was released by Coventry at the end of last term. Former Ipswich pair Richard and David Wright are also on Burley's radar, with defender David expected to join the club on Tuesday.
