Birmingham have gone top after Cardiff were held and Wolves lost to Derby.

Birmingham have moved top of The Championship thanks to a 2-0 win over QPR, while Cardiff and Wolves both dropped points.

Steve Bruce's side took the lead at Loftus Road thanks to Bruno N'Gotty's opener after 23 minutes, although they finished the game a man light.

They did it the hard way when Nicklas Bendtner collected a second yellow card, however Cameron Jerome made sure of the points late on with a fine lobbed finish.

Cardiff City missed the chance to fend off Birmingham at the summit of the table after throwing away a three-goal lead at Plymouth.

The Bluebirds looked in control as a goal from Steve Thomson and a brace from Michael Chopra had the visitors three-up.

However, Ian Holloway's charges never gave up hope and their comeback began when Kevin McNaughton sliced into his own net.

A scrambled goal from Barry Hayles gave Plymouth hope and late on Darren Purse's sensational own goal secured an unlikely point for The Pilgrims.

The Shrimpers opened the scoring with Freddy Eastwood lashing home after nine minutes, but it was one-way traffic after that.

Robert Earnshaw's close-range brace put The Canaries in front and Dickson Etuhu's powerful header after the break looked to have clinched the points.

However, Southend failed to read the script and after Steven Hammell pulled one back Mark Gower's fine finish in injury time salvaged a sensational 3-3 draw.

Jay Bothroyd went from hero to villain for Wolves as he missed a penalty in a 1-0 loss to lowly Derby.

The former Blackburn striker stole the points at Leeds on Sunday, but he failed to score from 12 yards that would have put Mick McCarthy's side ahead.

Wolves paid a heavy price for squandering the chance as Steve Howard's first goal for Derby after 34 minutes was enough to give Derby the points.

Hull City's season is up and running after Michael Bridges' first goal for the club lifted The Tigers to a 1-0 away win over Leicester City.

Richard Langley missed a penalty as Luton Town were held by Colchester at Kenilworth Road.

Things looked good early on for the home side when Sam Parkin found the back of the net after 32 minutes.

Jamie Cureton levelled matters before the break with a fine right-footed finish.

Luton should have claimed the points, but Langley saw his penalty strike the crossbar after Kemal Izzet brought him down in the box.

Ipswich Town continued their fine run after Billy Clarke's late goal gave them a 2-1 win over Coventry at Portman Road.

Mark Noble's first senior goal put Ipswich in front but Elliott Ward's left-footed pile-driver levelled matters.

Just when it looked like the points would be shared Clarke popped up five minutes before full time to snatch all three points.
