African qualifiers decided

The African qualifying section for the 2010 World Cup has seen some interesting combinations drawn.

Hosts South Africa, already qualified for the World Cup, were also drawn out as the groups double up as qualifiers for the 2010 African Cup of Nations.

Bafana Bafana have been drawn alongside Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea in one of the toughest looking groups.

Another strong quartet saw Senegal drawn with Liberia, Gambia and Algeria.

The 12 group winners and the eight best runners-up will contest the next stage in the qualification process.

Qualifiers will advance into a system of five groups of four teams. Each winner of such a group will qualify for the World Cup along with hosts South Africa.
