Newcastle held after squandering early lead

Newcastle squandered an early two-goal advantage as PSV Eindhoven claimed a 2-2 draw at St James' Park. The Magpies clicked from the off and were in front as early as the 3rd minute when Steven Taylor nodded the home side in front. The England Under-21 captain climbed the highest from Geremi's out-swinging corner to put Newcastle in front.

Doubled their advantage

They doubled their advantage just five minutes later when Danny Guthrie fired home past ex-Manchester City keeper Andreas Isaksson after being found by James Milner. PSV pulled a goal back on 32 minutes when Ibrahim Afellay fired home through a crowd of players after Shay Given could only palm away Nordin Amrabat's shot from the angle. The visitors left St James' Park with a share of the spoils thanks to Amrabat's 71st equaliser. The former VVV Venlo man lashed home a snap shot from 12-yards out.
