Alan Dzagoev, who starred for Russia at Euro 2012, will be playing for their Under-21s at next month's European U21 Championship.
The CSKA Moscow attacking midfielder was one of six players who shared the Golden Boot at in the tournament in Poland and Ukraine last summer.
Dzagoev is just 22 years old and already has 27 senior caps to his name. His inclusion for the U21 Euro will be seen as a huge boost to the chances of Nikolai Pisarev's youngsters in Israel - but he will miss the opening game against holders Spain on June 6 as he is in the senior Russia squad for their crucial World Cup qualifier away to Portugal the following day.
Among the other players with senior caps who have made the 23-man U21 squad are Dynamo Moscow winger Aleksandr Kokorin, highly-rated Real Madrid forward Denis Cheryshev, and winger Fyodor Smolov, who has been on loan at Anzhi Makhachkala from Dynamo Moscow and scored seven goals in 10 appearances in qualifying.
Like Dzagoev, Kokorin, Smolov and midfielder Oleg Shatov will also be with the senior squad in Lisbon and are therefore unavailable for the Group B opener in Jerusualem. They will travel to Israel afterwards and should be involved in the games against the Netherlands and Germany.
