The Portuguese Anti-doping Authority (AdoP) has stung national coach Carlos Queiroz with a six-month ban.
News of the impending suspension was first leaked on Monday, leading to Queiroz announcing that he planned to appeal the sanction 'before the court of arbitration for sport'.
He has called for the ban, which he deems to be 'erroneous and abusive', to be suspended pending his appeal.
The former Manchester United assistant manager is already serving a one-month ban handed out by the Portuguese Football Federation for insulting anti-doping officials who turned up to test his players at a pre-World Cup training camp in May.
Queiroz was accused of 'hindering the collecting of samples' as a result of creating 'a hostile environment around the operation'.
Missing
He is also said to have injured AdoP president Luis Horta as he attempted to go about his work.
The 57-year-old is already due to miss Portugal's Euro 2012 qualification openers against Cyprus and Norway.
He will now, if his ban is upheld, also miss two qualifiers in October against Denmark and Iceland.
Queiroz could also find himself in trouble for accusing Portugal Football Federation vice-president Amandio de Carvalho of trying to remove him from his post.
Having come under fire following Portugal's disappointing showing at the 2010 World Cup, Queiroz has faced a number of calls for his two-year tenure to be brought to a premature end.
