Georgios Samaras has dropped into the free agent pool but remains fully focused on international matters with Greece.

There will come a time when attention needs to be switched to his domestic future, with the powerful frontman having left Celtic at the end of his contract.

The 29-year-old has spent the last six years in Glasgow, making close to 250 appearances and collecting seven major honours.

He feels the time is right for a change, and speculation has suggested that clubs across Europe are keen on acquiring his services.

The likes of Sevilla and Everton are said to be leading the chase for the former Manchester City forward, but he has attempted to curb distracting gossip by dedicating himself to Greece’s World Cup campaign.

Ahead of a last-16 showdown with Costa Rica on Sunday, Samaras said: “I found my composure at Celtic and matured as a person.

“Celtic made me feel important, they made me feel like I am one of the best players in the team and it made me play better at all levels.

“I am only thinking about the national team and nothing else for now.

“At the moment I am thrilled because I have given joy to my countrymen.”
