France are set to discover on Thursday if they will be among the top seeds for the World Cup qualifying play-offs draw.
Les Bleus finished second behind Spain in Group I and must negotiate a two-legged play-off next month if they are to book a spot at the 2014 finals in Brazil.
However, the seedings for the draw will be based on the October FIFA World Rankings, which are due to be published on Thursday.
With France languishing in 25th for September, Laurent Blanc's men face a nervous wait to discover if they will improve their ranking and make the top pot. Fellow contenders Croatia, Portugal, Greece and Sweden were all ranked above France last month.
Ukraine, Romania and Iceland are the other European nations who will feature in the draw when it is made in Zurich next Monday (1pm UK time). Denmark were the unlucky group runners-up to miss out, as they finished ninth in the table of second-placed teams.
The play-off ties will be played on Friday 15 and Tuesday 19 November.
The group-stage draw for the World Cup finals will be made in Bahia on Friday 6 December (4pm UK time).
