Croatia to play next European Qualifier behind closed doors

UEFA has ordered Croatia to play their next home European Championship qualifier against Italy behind closed doors following racist behaviour by their fans.

The governing body’s disciplinary panel lost patience with Croatia because of the crowd trouble which took place during the country’s 5-1 win over Norway on March 28 in Zagreb.

The Croatian federation was also fined 50,000 euros.

UEFA action came following the racist behaviour and the "setting off/throwing of missiles and fireworks" by their fans during the Group H match.

Croatia's next home match in the group is against Italy on June 12.

The match was already being played in a partially closed stadium following trouble at Croatia's earlier fixture against Italy in November which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Croatian federation was ordered to close a section comprising of 8,000 seats after their fans twice caused the match at the San Siro stadium to be interrupted by throwing flares on to the pitch.
