Bailey Wright is poised to become Preston's first World Cup player since Sir Tom Finney.
The 21-year-old central defender is yet to win a full cap but he has won a place in the Socceroos' provisional squad.
Wright is now on course to follow in the footsteps of Finney, whose final World Cup appearance came in 1958.
After being named in Ange Postecoglou's squad he admitted to being delighted.
"I am delighted to be named in the 30-man squad but there is a lot of hard work to do," Wright told Sky Sports.
"It would be great for me and Preston but I want to do it as a Championship player and I have to only think about the play-offs at the moment "
