Australia have appointed technical director Han Berger to take temporary charge for this month's friendly against Slovenia.
The 60-year-old has been promoted to the role following former boss Pim Verbeek's departure after the World Cup, where the Socceroos failed to make it out of the group stage.
The vastly experienced coach, who began his career in management in 1976, is scheduled to name his squad on Tuesday for the match in Ljubljana on 11th August.
It is unlikely that the Dutchman will be given the role on a full time basis due to him being on a five-man panel to select the new manager for the start of their qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
The Football Federation Australia (FFA) confirmed the move on Monday, as well as announcing that Aurelio Vidmar will be his assistant.
