Wilson hails Barnsley attitude

Danny Wilson praised Barnsley for the performance they delivered at Chester which meant an FA Cup shock never looked likely.

"It was all set up for that," Wilson said of a possible banana skin. "That's what everyone thought. The League One side, who will now welcome Middlesbrough to Oakwell in the third round, were without a victory in their previous five contests and Wilson was elated at a much-improved showing. "What we did show was our true colours," he added. "We're a good side - even though we've got one or two players out, we've still got some good players in there. What we showed was a fantastic commitment because that's what you need. You need attitude and application and then if you can get the chance to play after that then that's a bonus. Every ingredient we spoke about we did." Their non-league opponents bowed out with a whimper and were unable to add a consolation goal in the final 15 minutes as Craig Hobson and Matt Brown nodded wide. Chester manager Steve Burr acknowledged he feared a response from Wilson's men following the 0-0 draw in the first meeting between the two but felt his side were under-par in a stadium which had been a fortress for them this term. "I think you could see the distance the two teams are apart," he admitted. "I'm disappointed with our performance a little bit. There's one or two who we know can do better - they were just a little bit off it. "But I think that was down to how Barnsley pressed us all through the game. Good luck to them in the next round, they deserved to get through. "All around the park they looked quite efficient and I expected that after the first one. "I just felt if we could just score things could have been a little bit different. But it was one of those nights where we tried hard but we just didn't reach those levels that we know we can play at."
