Metz put aside their Ligue 1 struggles to see off Racing Strasbourg 3-0 to book a place in the last 16 of the French Cup.
Peruvian striker Wilmer Aguirre scored twice for bottom club Metz, who have won just once in the league this season and are 14 points adrift of 19th placed Sochaux.
Aguirre took advantage of some sloppy defending from the home side to open the scoring at the start of the second half before adding his second just after the hour mark.
Laurent Agouazi saw his late penalty saved by Strasbourg goalkeeper Nicolas Puydebois but midfielder Miralem Pjanic added a third in the closing moments.
In the night's other game, Tours defeated Boulogne 2-1 after extra time, with the match ending 1-1 after 90 minutes.
