Sporting have snapped up Swedish international Pontus Farnerud from relegated French side Strasbourg.
The midfielder was not prepared to countenance Ligue 2 football next season and has now signed a three-year deal with the Portuguese giants.
The 26-year-old snubbed two French clubs after signalling his intention to leave, and he joins his brother in quitting Strasbourg after Alexander Farnerud joined Stuttgart.
"It feels fantastic, truly right," Pontus Farnerud told Sportbladet.
"It is a big club with a good history, a nice stadium and a terrific sporting complex.
"After seven and a half years in France I wanted a new challenge and come to a new country.
"I hope this move will boost my chances of a recall to the national team."
