Club president refusing to give up chase for Fiorentina striker
Genoa president Enrico Preziosi expects to find out next week whether Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino will be moving to his club.
Genoa have made no secret of their desire to bring the Italy international to Stadio Luigi Ferraris, but have been rebuffed in their advances so far.
The former Milan striker has enjoyed a return to form with the Viola since making a £1.4million move from the San Siro in 2008, and Fiorentina coach Sinisa Mihajlovic is reluctant to sell for less than £10million.
Interest from big-spending Paris St Germain appears to have inflated Gilardino's price tag, but Preziosi is not giving up on signing his top summer target.
"By the end of next week everything could be cleared," Preziosi told Italian radio station Kiss Kiss Napoli.
"We have never denied our interest for him. We are trying to understand the situation in comparison to Fiorentina. It's useless hiding it, but there isn't anything concrete."
