Dutch Premier possibles

We look at a selection of players from the Dutch Eredivisie who could join the English top-flight this winter.

With the January transfer window looming, speculation is rife over who could make the move to the Premier League. We've compiled a list of players from the Dutch Eredivisie who could possibly join the English top-flight this winter.
Ola Toivonen
Prolific forward Toivonen has made a big impact at PSV since arriving from Malmo early last year, knocking in 29 goals for the Dutch club. The Sweden international has stated he won't leave PSV this winter as the club will already lose Ibrahim Afellay to Barcelona - but things can change very quickly in modern football. Toivonen and Hungarian winger Balasz Dzudzsak are two Eindhoven players who have both been linked with an English switch. Toivonen, 24, whose strength would be useful to a lot of Premier League sides, once stated he would love to play for Newcastle United. Could he be a new partner for Andy Carroll if the prolific striker stays at St James' Park?
Jan Vertonghen
Defender and defensive midfielder Vertonghen has become a regular at Ajax since beginning his senior career in Amsterdam in 2006. The 23-year-old Belgium international has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, suggesting he could soon become the latest Eredivisie export to ply his trade in the Premier League. But after Martin Jol's resignation as coach, it's unknown whether Ajax will be willing to part ways with one of their stars this winter. Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has already stated his desire for a foreign adventure, but insists he won't leave the Dutch giants in the middle of the season.
Andreas Granqvist
Sweden international Granqvist enjoyed a taste of the Premier League when he spent time at Wigan Athletic between 2007-08. However, the 25-year-old defender failed to impress during that spell, and has since been honing his skills in the Dutch top-flight with high-flying FC Groningen. The stopper is contracted at Groningen until 2012, but has said he is willing to take another chance in the Premier League after helping keep the Dutch side in the race for the Eredivisie title this season.
Theo Janssen
Holland free-kick specialist Janssen started his career with Vitesse before making the move to FC Twente in 2008, helping the Dutch giants to the Eredivisie title last season. The midfielder has turned heads in the UEFA Champions League with Twente this term, and the 29-year-old feels he has reached the right age to depart Enschede and try his luck overseas, despite being contracted until 2014. Clubs in the German Bundesliga have reportedly shown an interest, while Inter Milan expressed their admiration for the Dutchman after clashing with Twente in Europe. However, a move to an English club is not out of the question.
Michael Silberbauer
Silberbauer, a Danish midfielder, has been unable to reach an agreement with FC Utrecht over a new deal, and his impressive play in the Eredivisie and UEFA Europa League is sure to have attracted the attention of English clubs. Utrecht are willing to sell the former Copenhagen man in order to secure a small transfer fee, rather than let him leave the club on a Bosman when his contract expires in June. The 29-year-old, who began his senior career with native club AaB Fodbold, has become a key member of the squad at Utrecht since arriving from Copenhagen two years ago.
