New Cagliari boss insists striker staying until summer at least

New Cagliari boss Roberto Donadoni insists striker Alessandro Matri is going nowhere as he seeks to guide the strugglers up Serie A. The 26-year-old striker has been linked with a move in the January transfer window to rejoin former Cagliari, and current AC Milan, boss Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro. He underlined his value to Cagliari when netting a brace in the club's 3-2 win over Lecce on Sunday, which lifts Donadoni's side up to 13th in the table. And the new Cagliari boss, who recently took over from Pieropaolo Bisoli, insists the striker is going nowhere until next summer at least. He told Sky Italia: "Matri? He knows his future is towards Cagliari. Until the end of the season he will have to do his duty, then we will see." Matri came through the youth ranks at Milan but was never able to make a first-team breakthrough before joining Cagliari on a permanent basis in 2007. Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has refused to confirm the club's intentions but has hinted that the striker could be on their radar.
