Zaragoza trio going nowhere

Pablo Aimar, Roberto Ayala and Francelino Matuzalem are all set to stay with Real Zaragoza.

Aimar, Ayala and Matuzalem committed to club

Pablo Aimar, Roberto Ayala and Francelino Matuzalem are all ready to commit themselves to playing in the second division for Real Zaragoza, despite reports that they are ready to quit. The trio have all put themselves at the disposal of the club and their agents are due to hold talks with Zaragoza to explain that they will stay and help win promotion. Speculation in England has suggested that Zaragoza have put Aimar up for sale with a 10million euros (£7.9million) price tag. However, according to his, and Ayala's, representative, Gustavo Mascardi, nothing could be further from the truth. "If the club wants to keep them, then they will stay," Mascardi told Marca. "That is what they are thinking and what they want now." Matuzalem's agent, Filippo Fusco, said the same about his client, revealing: "The truth is that selling the player is not something that has been considered." Newcastle United, Lazio, River Plate and Panathinaikos are all understood to have made enquiries about Aimar's availability. The final decision over the players will come from new coach Marcelino, who may require more funds to add to his squad or feel that the experience the trio offer could be invaluable.
