Long-serving goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is poised to sign a new contract at Juventus taking him through to 2017.

The 36-year-old has been in Turin since completing a reported £23m-move from Parma in 2001, still a record amount for a goalkeeper.

His current deal will take him to the end of the season, when he will be hoping to celebrate a fourth successive Serie A title.

He then intends to be back for more in 2015/16, with extension talks well underway.

No agreement has been reached as yet, but World Cup winner Buffon is confident that fresh terms will be thrashed out and he will be given the opportunity to extend his stay with the Bianconeri.

He said ahead of a UEFA Champions League clash with Olympiakos on Wednesday: “I have not renewed yet, but there are no problems either.

“There is a sense of unity with the staff and the president. We are talking about it and soon everything will be defined.”
