League Two: Morecambe boss Jim Bentley happy with a point at Cheltenham

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley was happy with a point after his side denied Cheltenham a first home win under boss Paul Buckle.

Padraig Amond's late penalty pegged back the Robins, who took the lead with a spot-kick of their own after 18 minutes. Shaun Beeley shoved Lee Vaughan inside the box and Jack Dunn scored from 12 yards out to make it two goals in three appearances since his arrival on loan from Liverpool.

Prior to Amond's equaliser, Jamie Devitt had a penalty saved by home goalkeeper Trevor Carson. He then prodded the rebound against a post.

"It was an exciting game," said Bentley after Friday night's 1-1 draw. "Cheltenham are under a new manager and they've had an injection of youth, with three lads from Liverpool coming in.

"Both keepers have made good saves and overall it was a very good game. Even though we had plenty of possession in the second half and some good chances, they could have been out of sight at the start of the second half.

"If it had gone to 2-0 up they'd have had the momentum, but I am disappointed we didn't score more than one goal.

"We'll take a point and we'll move on because it was a good game, with both sets of players having a right good go."

Buckle felt Cheltenham's inability to double their lead from a succession of chances early in the second half proved costly.

"I went from thinking we were going to win it by two or three at the start of the second half to thinking we were going to throw it away," said Buckle.

"We have to be pleased with a point in the end, but we had some unbelievable chances at 1-0 up.

"It's been a nervy season and we've not been two goals up in a game since I came here, so we really needed to put the game to bed at that stage.

"If we'd gone 2-0 up we'd have gone on to get a third, but in the end we were dependent on Trevor Carson's penalty save.

"If you don't put your chances away it usually comes back to bite you. We had total control and really good chances, with Jack Dunn causing them problems.

"When you don't put them away, a team like Morecambe will have a go at you, but at least we dug in and got a point."
