Roche: Inconsistency cost us

Goalkeeper Barry Roche concedes Morecambe have been left to rue their inconsistent form this season.

The Shrimps will look to bounce back from a 2-0 derby defeat to Accrington last Friday when they host Stanley's fellow strugglers Torquay at the Globe Arena this weekend. That reverse came on the back of an impressive victory over promotion-chasing Rotherham and Roche believes such fluctuating fortunes are symptomatic of their season. "There's no other way to describe it other than inconsistent," he said. "We've said it so many times. We've put a couple of good results together and gone 'right, it's time to kick on' and then we've let ourselves down over the following weeks. "That's the reason why we're in the position we're in. We were excellent against Rotherham and we've been really good against other big sides this season. There's very few of the top 10 sides who've had an easy ride against us. "We've let ourselves down in games where we feel we should have won. We've gone to Wimbledon a few weeks ago, absolutely played them off the park for 20-25 minutes and should have been three or four up but we've ended up losing the game 2-0. "At Accrington, in the first 20 minutes there was only one team in the game and we lost 2-0. That's unfortunate really but, from our point of view, it's happened far too many times this season."
