Morecambe have completed the signing of defender Andrew Wright on a two-year deal after Scunthorpe recently released the player.

Wright was released by Scunthorpe at the end of the season having made 102 appearances in all competitions for the Glanford Park outfit. The former Liverpool trainee, who spent four years in America playing for West Virginia University and Cape Cod Crusaders, completed the recent campaign with a second loan spell at Blue Square Bet Premier side Grimsby. Wright is Morecambe boss Jim Bentley's second summer acquisition following Robbie Threlfall, and the 27-year-old revealed Scunthorpe's former Shrimps Garry Thompson and Mark Duffy helped persuade him to make the move. "Garry and Mark had a lot of good things to say about the club," he told Morecambe's official website. "When I spoke to Jim I was really impressed with what he had to say and I couldn't wait to sign. "I am really looking forward to pre-season and getting to meet all the lads. It's a new challenge for me and I'm really looking forward to it."
