Sampson stays with Southend

Striker Jack Sampson has decided to stay with Southend, who have agreed to extend the Bolton player's loan for another month.

The 18-year-old marksman has made one start and two substitute appearances since his move from the Premier League club last month. Sampson's initial month-long stay expired after Friday's disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Rotherham, for which he appeared as a second-half substitute, but he will now remain at Roots Hall until at least March 10. The teenager will hope to regain a starting berth in Monday night's home clash against Gillingham as the Shrimpers look to get their promotion charge back on track.
