Mark Hughes admits the Walsall players are at a loss to pinpoint why the team have been so inconsistent in League One this season.

The Saddlers, currently slap bang in the middle of the League One table in 12th, flirted briefly with the play-off positions towards the end of 2009 but have now drifted a full 17 points away, something which has led to the voicing of frustration of late.

But the facts speak for themselves - Walsall have managed back-to-back wins just twice this season, currently boast a middle-of-the-road record of 12 wins, 11 draws and 14 defeats and went from losing at struggling Oldham to winning at Leeds in the space of just four days last month.

Writing in his captain's blog on the club's official website, Hughes said: "None of the lads can put their finger on why we blow so hot and cold.

"That's why we are where we are in the league, we just don't have any consistency."
