Adams rues defensive mistakes

Micky Adams was left frustrated at the final whistle after seeing a dominant Tranmere suffer a 3-2 loss to Dagenham.

Two goals in four second-half minutes from Ashley Hemmings and Billy Bingham propelled Dagenham up the table and left Tranmere precariously placed. Rovers manager Micky Adams said: "Going forward we created chances but in the last two home games we would have had to score three times in each to get something out of it and you just can't put yourself in that position. "We've made mistakes at the back and they've been punished. Defensively we were miles away from where we needed to be. "It is frustrating because we did our homework and told the players what to expect on the training ground. "I didn't see anything happening before the first goal went in and then all of a sudden we are chasing it. "With the chances we created we could have got something out of it. "It's hard for everybody to take, the supporters not least of all. "We have to get a settled side because we have to be better for sure. I take responsibility but the players have to look at themselves. "But there are teams who are still around us despite the fact we've dropped into the bottom two so we shouldn't panic." Jamie Cureton atoned for an earlier error on 40 minutes, however, placing a classy lob over the exposed Owain Fon Williams but Tranmere substitute Dan Gardner curled a stunning equaliser just three minutes later. Hemmings put the Daggers back in front five minutes into the second half when he found the bottom corner, while Bingham scored from 30 yards with a sweetly-struck 53rd-minute drive to put the visitors in control. Max Power drilled in late for Tranmere to ensure a nervy finish in which Janoi Donacien blazed over late on, but Dagenham held on. Assistant manager Warren Hackett insisted his Dagenham side are no longer looking over their shoulders. Hackett is convinced the win puts much-needed breathing space between the Daggers and those at the foot of the League Two table, and now the Essex men are desperate to keep climbing the table. Hackett said: "It was an important win. Tranmere are one of the teams in and around us and we need to ensure we beat those teams. "We want to push on and see where we can put ourselves by the end of the season. "There were some nice goals scored and we looked confident in the final third of the pitch. "We could have gone on to get more but fortunately three was enough for us. "Fair play to Tranmere because they threw the kitchen sink at us and that's what you'd expect because we are in a precarious position. "We are not silly enough to think that we are out of trouble yet. We just want to keep winning football matches after what was a very good week for us."
